In this workshop, participants will practice using writing-based strategies for engaging writers and ideas in the English classroom. From informal generative writing to collaborative writing exercises, the strategies presented in this session aim to foster a learning environment in which students can think and freely process their ideas while deepening their relationships with the literature that they encounter in school.  Through a series of writing-based strategies, we will uncover approaches to the classroom that will support students from when they first encounter works of literature to their analytical investigations of those works in longer pieces of writing. Through the practice of this writing-based pedagogy, English teachers can foster a classroom environment in which all voices are heard and are vital to the shared project of learning.

**Participants in this session should bring a notebook and writing utensil.
